Mildred McColl Scholarship Fund

The Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist children from selected high schools who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants of the Mildred McColl Scholarship Fund must:

  • Be United States Citizens
  • High school seniors who are attending Gig Harbor High School, Penninsula High School, or Henderson Bay High School,
    OR
  • Previous award recipients of the Mildred McColl Scholarship Fund, excluding honorarium recipients,
    AND
  • Planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the fall of the upcoming academic year.

Award information:

Scholarship awards range from $500 – $4,000, provided financial need is demonstrated. Potential recipients who demonstrate no need will be eligible to receive a one-time honorarium in the amount of $500.

Awards are not renewable; however, previous award recipients excluding honorariums may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in late May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Community Service
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation
  • Financial need

Recipients who do not demonstrate financial need as calculated by Scholarship America or whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to receive a one-time honorarium at the minimum award amount.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Gig Harbor Rotary Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 1, 2023 1:00 pm Pacific Time.
