Granite Construction, Inc. "Character Matters" Scholarship Fund
Application status: Closed

Granite Construction, Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children or grandchildren who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Granite Construction, Inc. “Character Matters” Scholarship Fund must be:

  • Children or grandchildren, age 25 and under, of active employees of Granite Construction, Inc. or its subsidiaries who have a minimum of 1000 hours within the past twelve months or one (1) year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children or grandchildren of retired or deceased employees are not eligible to apply.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $500 to $2,000. Awards will be granted in proportion to the number of applications received from salaried and hourly employees.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Granite Construction, Inc. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Finalist and Recipients

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • A one-page, character-based essay (at least 500 words)
  • An online recommendation

Finalist essays, each identified with only a Scholarship America identification number, are forwarded to Granite Construction, Inc. for review and ranking by an employee panel. These rankings are then submitted to Scholarship America for incorporation into the final recipient selection.

Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award, ranging from $500 to $2,000. The minimum award of $500 is considered an honorarium and granted for one-time only. Up to five honorariums will be granted. Recipients whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to receive a minimum award only.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 12, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
