Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Scholarship Program
Deadline to apply: June 13, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time

Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Inc. is pleased to sponsor a scholarship program providing financial assistance to qualified children of corporate employees and children of independent operators who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Inc. Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, age 24 and under, of full-time Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Inc. corporate employees or of independent operators who are active, on long-term disability or deceased.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children, or wards or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee. (Employee or operator must provide more than one-half of the child’s total support during the calendar year.)
  • High school students (grades 9 – 11), graduating high school seniors, or students who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time or at least half-time course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Awards

Applicants to the Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Scholarship Program will be divided into two groups:

  • High School students (grades 9 – 11)
  • High School seniors and undergraduates

The number of recipients in each category will be in direct proportion to the number of applicants.

If selected as a recipient while still in high school (grades 9 – 11), the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. The award will be “set aside” until high school graduation and enrollment in postsecondary study.

If selected as a recipient as a high school senior or undergraduate, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. The award will be payable to the postsecondary school for the student in the upcoming academic year. Award amounts will not exceed the total amount of estimated school expenses.

A $2,500 scholarship will be given in memory of a child of an independent operator.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Recipients who do not show financial need or whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to receive a minimum award only.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Grocery Outlet Bargain Market Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in August.
