Hannaford Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Hannaford Charitable Foundation

Established in 1993, Hannaford Charitable Foundation provides financial support to charitable programs and organizations that enhance the quality of life in the communities in which Hannaford does business. The Hannaford Scholarship Program is funded through the Foundation by a generous gift from Florence Taylor Petrlik, a Hannaford Director from 1971 to 1993, and annual company contributions.

The Program

Hannaford has established a scholarship program to assist associates of Hannaford or one of the related companies that contribute to Hannaford’s success (Retail Business Services, ADUSA Distribution, ADUSA Transportation) and their dependent children who plan to pursue a postsecondary education in college and vocational programs.  Each year scholarships are offered for full-time study at any accredited postsecondary institution of the student’s choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Hannaford Scholarship Program must be:

  • Both full-time and part-time associates of Hannaford or one of the related companies that contribute to Hannaford’s success (Retail Business Services, ADUSA Distribution, ADUSA Transportation) or their dependent children* with a minimum of six months services as of the application deadline date.
  • High school seniors or graduates planning to enroll or students already enrolled in full-time study for the entire academic year leading to a bachelor’s or graduate’s degree at an accredited college or university, an associate degree at a junior or community college, or a certificate at an approved vocational-technical institute.

*Dependent child is defined as the son, daughter, stepson, stepdaughter, legally adopted child or legal ward supported principally by the associate.

Award information:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,000 to $5,000. Up to fifty (50) scholarships may be awarded each year.

Financial need will be considered in determining the award amount. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Awards are not renewable; however students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate studies.

Efforts will be made to ensure that recipients are representative of all areas of the company.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Hannaford Charitable Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Although Hannaford establishes the criteria, selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of Hannaford or the Hannaford Charitable Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display the student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, as well as the term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 28, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
