The Hanover Insurance Group Employee Scholarship Program

The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. has established a competitive scholarship program to recognize the importance of education and to provide support to employees’ children who plan to continue their education at a college, university, or vocational-technical school.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals.

Applicants of The Hanover Insurance Group Employee Scholarship Program award must be:

  • a dependent* child of a full-time Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. employee who qualifies for company-sponsored benefits, has a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date and remains employed by the company on the date recipients are announced to the public. Employees must have an overall performance rating of “meets expectations” or higher
  • a high school senior or first-year college student attending an accredited, diploma-granting, public or private school
  • planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school no later than fall 2019

*Dependent children are defined as natural or legally adopted children or dependent stepchildren primarily supported by the employee.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive one of the following award designations:

  • Three students will be selected to receive a $2,500 award
  • Thirteen additional students will be selected to receive a $1,000 award
  • Awards are one-time only and are not renewable
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only


The selection process will not be influenced or affected by the actual or perceived race, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, gender, or sexual orientation of any applicant.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • academic record
  • demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • honors
  • work experience
  • statement of goals and aspirations
  • an outside appraisal

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. or Citizens Insurance play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Notification of recipients is sent via standard mail in February. Nonrecipients are notified by email. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc.

Payments are made in one installment in mid-July.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
