The Holt Wallace College Scholarship is a program designed to assist residents of Louisiana who plan to continue their education in college.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, or national origin.

Applicants of the college scholarship program must be:

  • Residents of Louisiana by the application deadline
  • High school seniors, graduates or current college undergraduate and graduate students
  • Planning to enroll in full-time study at an eligible* postsecondary institution the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

*Eligible postsecondary institutions includes: accredited two-year or four-year college or university, graduate school or vocational-technical college.

If selected as a recipient, the student receives:

  • An award ranging from $1,500 to $5,000
  • Awards may be renewed for up to three years, or until a graduate/undergraduate degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Students may receive a maximum of four years of funding. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the sponsor
  • Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study. Preference is given to undergraduates.

Financial need is a factor in determining the amount of an award once recipients are chosen. Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is used to determine the amount of each award. Honorariums at the minimum award level ($1,500) will be awarded to students who show outstanding achievement but no financial need or who do not complete the financial data section.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An outside appraisal
  • Financial need

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the The Holt Family Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
