Horace Mann Employee College Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Horace Mann has established a scholarship program to assist employees who plan to continue their education in job-related coursework or a business-related degree program. Scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Horace Mann Employee College Scholarship Program must:

  • Be full-time active Horace Mann employees who have a minimum of one year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date
  • Plan to enroll in undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for at least one term during the 2025 calendar year. Courses must be directly related to a current job or an elective or required course toward a business-related degree program. Courses must earn college credit.

Awards of up to $5,000 each will be granted. Awards are not to exceed tuition, books and eligible fees for eligible coursework.

Each recipient must remain an active full-time employee of the company in good standing at the time of award distribution, upon completion of the course(s) with a “C” grade or better; and submission of a legible copy of grades and eligible expenses substantiating the full scholarship payment by January 15 of the following year. If these conditions are not met, recipients must repay their award to Horace Mann. Complete details and an agreement form will be provided to recipients in their acceptance package.

Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. At the sole discretion of Horace Mann, the highest two ranked applicants may be given the option to renew the scholarship award up to three (3) consecutive years or until the career maximum of $20,000 in scholarship awards is reached, whichever occurs first.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Employment history
  • Horace Mann manager certification
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives

Financial need is not considered.

Scholarship America will rank eligible applications. Horace Mann will determine distribution based on Scholarship America’s ranking and available funds. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified via email in December. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Horace Mann. The award may be distributed over three, two or one term(s). The college is not allowed to hold funds for coursework after 12/31/25.
