Scholarship Program

The Howard Hughes Corporation has formed a scholarship program to support residents of eligible regional areas who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Howard Hughes Corporation Community Scholarship Program must:

  • Be high school seniors residing in or around one of the following six (6) regional areas:
    • The Seaport (Downtown NYC / Financial District)
    • Columbia, Maryland (Howard County)
    • The Woodlands, TX
    • Summerlin (Las Vegas, Nevada)
    • Ward Village (Honolulu, Hawaii)
    • Phoenix, AZ
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
  • Be pursuing a major in one of the following fields:
    • Accounting, Marketing/Digital, Finance/Economics, Engineering (Civil/Mechanical), Human Resources, Communication, English/Literature

Awards

Up to 3 renewable awards of $5,000 each will be granted.

Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance. Students do not need to continue to reside in an eligible regional area for renewal of their award.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Howard Hughes Corporation. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.

Financial need will be considered. All recipients must demonstrate financial need.

Provided qualified applications are received, at least one recipient will be selected that is currently living with, or have lived with, a foster care family and one recipient will be selected that self-identifies as American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Howard Hughes Corporation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
  • Copy of the first two pages of your IRS Form 1040 used to complete the Financial Information section of the application.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 2, 2022 3:00 pm CT.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
