H&R Block Children of Associates Premier Scholarship (CAPS) Program

H&R Block has established a scholarship program to assist children and grandchildren of associates, franchisees, and franchise employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the H&R Block Children of Associates Premier Scholarship (CAPS) Program must:

  • Be dependent* children or grandchildren, age 24 and under, of H&R Block associates, franchisees, and franchise employees in the United States, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and India, and be able to prove relationship to employee
    * Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee
    **Grandchildren do not need to be dependents of the employee
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent)

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to 20 awards will be granted.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in March.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of H&R Block. Payment is made in mid-July.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • A custom essay*

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of H&R Block play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

In 2,000 characters (approximately 500 words), please respond to the following:
How have you given back to your community and made your community better? Your community could include: your volunteer experiences, how you improve your neighborhood and/or hometown, and any leadership roles at your school or youth groups, and/or any other projects or efforts you think we should know about.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
