The Humana Foundation Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

The Humana Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist children of associates who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Humana Foundation Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent children*, age 25 and under, of full-time and part-time** Humana associates in the United States or Puerto Rico who have a minimum of three years continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date. Associates from companies recently acquired by Humana must have at least one year of service with Humana in addition to two years prior service with the previous employer – totaling three years of continuous employment.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the United States or Puerto Rico that will lead to an academic degree.

*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the associate’s household or primarily supported by the associate.

**A part-time associate with an average of at least 20 hours per week for the last three years is eligible.

Students planning to attend U.S. Service Academies are not eligible.

Children of officers of Humana Inc. or its subsidiaries are ineligible to apply to the program. This includes all associates with the title of president or vice president. Contract employees are also ineligible.

Award Information:

  • If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $1,500 if their parent is a part-time associate, or $3,000 if their parent is a full-time associate. Up to 80 new awards will be granted this year.
  • Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the Humana Foundation.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in mid-March. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Humana Foundation. Payments are made in July. They are mailed to the recipient and made payable to the school.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation
  • Financial need

Financial need as calculated by Scholarship America must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Selection of recipients is made solely by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the Humana Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than January 22, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
