IBTTA Foundation Scholarship Program

The IBTTA Foundation – the research, education and charitable arm of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association – has established a scholarship program to assist current undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in transportation-related fields (listed on eligibility tab below).

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility
Applicants to the IBTTA Foundation Scholarship Program must be:

  • Current undergraduate college students who have completed at least two full semesters of undergraduate coursework at the time of application (24 credit minimum), or graduate students, and who are pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:
    • Civil Engineering
    • City and Regional Planning
    • Construction Management
    • Public Policy or Public Administration
    • Structural Engineering
    • Finance
    • Accounting
    • Information Technology
    • Business Management
    • Marketing
    • Communications
    • Operations Management
    • Other Transportation-Related Degrees
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate, or graduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

International students may apply.

Award
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to six (6) awards will be granted. Awards are not renewable and are one-time only.

At least one award will be allocated to a recipient attending an HBCU, depending upon qualified applicants. The notified recipient must be enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at a verified HBCU institution for the entire upcoming academic year.

One award may be allocated to a graduate student.

Notification
Applicants will be notified in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Non-recipients may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in mid August.

Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Two online recommendations

Applicants are also required to submit an essay introducing themselves and addressing the following question: “What are your views on our nation’s transportation needs by the year 2030? How might those needs impact mobility and what role will you play?” In your response, be sure to reference any transportation-related work history that will help us in our evaluation of your application.

Selection of finalists is made by Scholarship America. Selection of recipients is made by the IBTTA Foundation. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  • Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.

Two online recommendation forms must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 24, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents above are submitted electronically.
