InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) established the Steve Porter Memorial Scholarship program to assist employees’ children who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college and vocational programs. Scholarships are offered for full-time study at any accredited post-secondary institution of the student’s choice located in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Steve Porter Memorial Scholarship Program must be:
Children of temporary, part-time, on-call, and/or seasonal employees are not eligible.
Up to 10 awards in the amount of $5,000 each will be granted. There’s a limit of one scholarship recipient per hotel. Awards are not renewable; however, a student may receive the award a maximum of two times only. Awards may be taxable income based on levels of participation and adherence to applicable laws at the time of award.
Awards are for undergraduate or graduate study.
All applicants will be notified in July.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of IHG. Payment is made in August. All awards are paid in U.S. currency.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, and unusual personal or family circumstances.
Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered in determining award distribution. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of IHG play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
