Jayne M. Perkins Memorial Scholarship Program

Jayne M. Perkins Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist United States citizens in pursuing a doctoral degree in medicine, medical-related field, or nursing.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Jayne M. Perkins Memorial Scholarship Program must be:

  • United States citizens who have obtained an undergraduate degree and be pursuing one of the following degrees:
      • Doctor of medicine, or
      • Ph.D. in a medical-related field (Master’s Degree previously completed) with preference given to
        applicants whose studies include cancer research (brain, organ, colon and skin), dementia and
        Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, or skin disorders/diseases, or
      • Ph.D. candidates in the field of nursing. (Master’s Degree previously completed)
  • Admitted into and plan to enroll for the upcoming academic year at one of the following universities:
      • University of Washington
      • University of California, San Francisco
      • Stanford University
      • Washington University
      • St. Louis University

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. Up to 10 awards will be granted.

Awards are for PhD or doctoral study in medicine only.

Awards are not renewable; however, previous recipients may reapply provided they meet all eligibility requirements.

Selection of Recipients

In the evaluation process, Jayne M. Perkins Foundation will consider the following:

  • Past academic performance
  • Work and/or internship experiences
  • Statement of career and educational aspirations and goals
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Only the first 100 applications received will be processed.

Jayne M. Perkins Foundation reviews all of the applications and narrows the pool down to 50. Selection of recipients will be made by the Jayne M. Perkins Foundation Board.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in mid-August.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Jayne M. Perkins Foundation. Payment is made payable to the school in mid-September.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A complete transcript of grades from each postsecondary institution attended must be uploaded with this application. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Optional: Supporting document(s) such as resume, publications, awards, etc.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 2, 2023 3:00 pm Central Time.  Recommender must also attach a letter of recommendation to their online recommendation form.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
