John O. Whitney Scholarship Program

Church & Dwight Co., Inc. has established the John O. Whitney Scholarship Program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college, university, or vocational/trade school programs.

Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice. This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, is the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the John O. Whitney Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, age 23 and under, of full-time U.S. and international Church & Dwight Co., Inc. employees (or qualified retirees for renewals) who have a minimum of one year of employment with Church & Dwight Co. as of the application deadline.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • In their final year of high school/secondary school, high school/secondary school graduates or students who are already enrolled in an undergraduate program who plan to enroll in two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

U.S. Students
Applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study, pursuing their first degree at an accredited two-year, four-year or vocational-technical college or university for the entire academic year.

International and Canadian Students
Applicants must be students in their final year of secondary school or secondary school graduates who plan to enroll or students already enrolled in full-time university level or vocational-technical studies for the entire upcoming academic year, pursuing their first degree.

Children of Vice Presidents and above are ineligible.

Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement are ineligible.

Awards
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 (U.S.).

Awards for students attending two-year and four-year colleges or universities will range from $5,000 to $10,000.

Awards for students attending technical-vocational colleges or universities will range from $2,500 to $5,000

Determination of recipients will be made without regard to financial need, but financial need will be considered in determining the amount of each award. Potential recipients who demonstrate no need will be eligible to receive a minimum award of $2,500 or $5,000.

Of the awards made each year, at least one will be awarded within the following groups:

  • Corporate (defined as Ewing, NJ; Princeton, NJ; and Regional Sales employees)
  • U.S. plants
  • Fort Collins, CO
  • International locations

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (cumulative GPA of at least 2.8 on a 4.0 scale) in full-time study, continued full-time employment of the student’s parent at Church & Dwight Co., Inc., or qualified retirement and continuation of the program by Church & Dwight, Inc.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need will be considered in determining the amount of each award ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Potential recipients who demonstrate no need will be eligible to receive a minimum award of $5,000 or $2,500.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Church & Dwight Co., Inc. play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification
Applicants will be notified in July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes John O. Whitney scholarship payments on behalf of the Church & Dwight Co., Inc. Payment is made in September. The award check will be issued in U.S. currency.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

For U.S. applicants

    • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
      NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
      • Students currently or previously enrolled in college or vocational-technical school must include all college or vocational-technical transcripts of grades from each school attended.
      • High school seniors and students who have completed less than one full quarter or semester of college or vocational-technical education must include a high school transcript of grades.

For non-U.S. applicants

      1. English translations for all non-English documents
      2. Clear scans of the following educational documents:
        • Students currently or previously enrolled in university must include:
          1. Academic record (transcript of grades) for all university course work completed, and
          2. Secondary school credential/diploma/certificate.
        • Current (upper) secondary school students and students who have completed less than one year of higher education (university) must include:
          1. Academic record (transcript of grades) for all higher education course work completed, and
          2. Results of academic examinations (if available).

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 17, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.
