James and Thelma Connors Scholarship

The James & Thelma Connors Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist children who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the James and Thelma Connors Scholarship must:

  • Be a resident of the City of Medford, Massachusetts, attending or graduated from a public, private, charter or secondary program in the City of Medford and surrounding area.
  • Be a high school senior or graduate, age 21 and under, who will be entering their first year of undergraduate study in the Fall of 2021.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2021-2022 academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.3 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).
  • Willingness to attend an awards event in Medford, upon invitation.

Children and grandchildren of current James & Thelma Connors Foundation Directors are ineligible to apply.

Award Information

Up to 35 awards of $3,000 will be granted to applicants who attended Medford Public High School or Medford Vocational Technical High School. Up to 15 awards will be granted to applicants who attended any other public, private charter or secondary program in the City of Medford, Massachusetts, and surrounding area.

Awards are one time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.


Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the James & Thelma Connors Foundation. Payments are made in mid-August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances and an online recommendation.

Financial need will be considered if financial information is provided. If you choose not to provide financial information, it will not count against you when being considered for an award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the James & Thelma Connors Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document(s):

  1. A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  2. Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information Page (if you choose not to provide financial information on the application, submission of Form 1040 is not required).

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than April 7, 2021 3:00 pm.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically through the Scholarship America Student Hub.
