Kleinfelder Academic Scholarship Plan

The Kleinfelder Group, Inc. has established the Kleinfelder Academic Scholarship Plan (KASP). This program provides scholarships to employees’ children and interns who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school and interns pursuing careers in our industry. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at accredited institutions of the students’ choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.

Applicants to the Kleinfelder Dependent Academic Scholarship must be:

  • Dependent* children, age 24 and under, of full-time or part-time Kleinfelder Group, Inc. employees who have a minimum of one (1) year of employment with the company as of January 1, 2024.
    *Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester) undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2024-2025 academic year.

Applicants to the Kleinfelder Intern Academic Scholarship must be:

Kleinfelder, Inc. intern employees (employed in the previous calendar year) who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study in one of the following industry-specific curriculum listed below*:

  • For industry-specific awards, be enrolling in one of the following curriculum listed below*

*Industry Specific curriculum are:

  • Architecture
  • Architectural Engineering
  • Biological Sciences*
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering**
  • Construction Management
  • Construction Technology Planning
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Management
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Geology
  • Geological Engineering
  • Hydrogeology
  • Hydrology
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Natural Resource Management and/or Planning

*Biological Sciences-industry specific in the following: Watershed Management, Natural Resources Planning, Botany and Plant Sciences, Principles of Ecology, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Fisheries, and/or Range Management.
**With a preferred emphasis in environmental, water, transportation, or geotechnical.

Kleinfelder’s Dependent Academic Scholarship Plan has two categories of awards:

  • Industry Specific Award: These scholarships are for dependent children pursuing higher education within Kleinfelder’s industry enrolling in one of the following curriculum listed below*.
  • At Large Award: This category provides scholarships to dependent children pursuing education in all fields of study. Students may seek any major at any school.

Kleinfelder Intern Academic Scholarship Plan is for Kleinfelder, Inc. intern employees who are currently enrolled in one of the following curriculum listed below*.

  • Construction Management
  • Construction Technology Planning
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Environmental Management
  • Environmental Sciences

  • Geological Engineering
  • Hydrogeology
  • Hydrology
  • Materials Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Natural Resource Management and/or Planning

*Biological Sciences-industry specific in the following: Watershed Management, Natural Resources Planning, Botany and Plant Sciences, Principles of Ecology, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Fisheries, and/or Range Management.

Dependent Awards:

Up to four awards of $2,000 each and one named award, the Jim Kleinfelder Award, in the amount of $5,000 will be granted to students in the Industry Specific category. The Jim Kleinfelder Award will be awarded to the top student in this category.

Up to four awards of $2,000 each and one named award, the Legacy Award, in the amount of $5,000 will be granted to students in the At-Large category. The Legacy Award will be awarded to the top student in this category.

Intern Awards:

Up to five awards of $1,000 each will be granted in the Intern Academic Scholarship Plan. Intern awards are for full-time undergraduate or graduate study.

Dependent awards are for full-time undergraduate study only.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

 

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Intern scholarship recipients must be employed by Kleinfelder during the previous calendar year and be enrolled in the previously mentioned curriculums. Selection of intern recipients will be selected based on the same criteria as academic scholarship recipients.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Kleinfelder Group, Inc. play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in July. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students and interns may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Kleinfelder Group, Inc. Payment is made in one installment in early August.

Required Documents

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than June 10, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
