The Jerold B. Katz Scholarship Program has been established to assist children of Jerold B. Katz Interests, First Community Services, Inc., First Community Bancshares, Inc. and subsidiaries, and other affiliated employers who plan to continue their education in college, vocational or technical school programs. Scholarships are offered for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice for the upcoming school year.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, or national origin.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
Children of deceased and disabled employees with the above tenure are also eligible.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $2,500. Up to four (4) awards will be granted.
Awards are not renewable, however, students may reapply each year they meet eligibility requirements. A student may receive a maximum of four (4) awards.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic information, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.
Financial need will be considered. Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated.
Applicants will be notified in late June.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Jerold B. Katz Foundation. Payments are made in two installments in early August and mid December. Checks are made payable to the school and mailed to the student’s home address.
As part of your application, you must upload the following document(s):
A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours, and term in which the course was taken.
