Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarships for Black Students

Knoll Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who identify as black that reside in the United States and Canada who plan to continue their education in a college or vocational school in a design-related program.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, or disability.

Applicants to the Knoll Diversity Advancement Design Scholarships for Black Students Program must:

  • Identify as Black.
  • Reside in the United States or Canada.
  • Be high school seniors / students in their final year of upper secondary school who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or CEGEP institution for the entire academic year.
  • Be pursuing a design-related degree; majors include, but are not limited to:
    • Architecture
    • Architecture Technician
    • Architecture Technology
    • Graphic Design
    • Industrial Design
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Industrial Production Technology
    • Interior Design

Children and grandchildren of employees of Knoll, Inc. and is subsidiaries are ineligible for this program.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $10,000 award. Up to five {5} awards will be granted.

Provided there are qualified applicants, recipients will be selected in proportion to the number of applicants per country.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, maintaining an eligible major for this scholarship and continuation of the program by Knoll Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in mid March.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Knoll Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of financial need, architecture or industrial design goals essay, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, unusual personal or family circumstances, and academic performance.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be weighted as 25% of the evaluation. Recipients must demonstrate need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Knoll Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • Copy of the most recently filed tax return filed with the IRS or Revenue Canada which was used to complete the Financial Information section. Please block out all social security/social insurance numbers before uploading.
