LA-CO's Leaders for the Future: Education Assistance Program

LA-CO Industries, Inc. has established a scholarship program and an education assistance program to assist employees’ children who plan to continue their education in college or university programs. Scholarships and Education Assistance are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

These programs are administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Dr. Lester Aronberg and Tony B. Scholarship or LA-CO Leaders for the Future: Education Assistance Program must be:

  • Dependent children* between the ages of 17-23 of full-time LA-CO Industries, Inc. employees who have a minimum of one consecutive year of employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
    *A dependent child is defined as a child between the ages of 17-23 who is claimed as a dependent on the most recent 1040 or 1040A federal tax form. Step-children, adopted children, and children for whom the employee is a legal guardian are also eligible. If divorced and the child is not claimed as a dependent, proof that monthly support is provided for the applicant must be submitted.
  • High school seniors or graduates (or possess a GED certificate,) who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a minimum part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA (4.0 scale).

Awards

Applicants to the single application will be considered for both programs.

  • One Dr. Lester Aronberg Scholarship award will be awarded yearly based on merit. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $7,500, one-time award and must attend a four-year college or university. Recipients may receive this award one time only.
  • One Tony B. Scholarship award will be awarded yearly based on merit with extra consideration given for community service activities. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,000, one-time award and must attend a two-year or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school. Recipients may receive this award one time only.
  • LA-CO Leaders for the Future: Education Assistance awards will be given to all applicants excluding the recipients of the Dr. Lester Aronberg Scholarship award and Tony B. Scholarship award provided they meet eligibility standards and enroll in an accredited educational institution as described above.
  • Education Assistance awards of up to $1,500 (depending on the number of applicants) will be granted for one academic year. Individual award amounts shall not exceed the cost of tuition and fees.* Financial need will not be considered.
  • Awards are not automatically renewed. Students may reapply each year they meet eligibility requirements and intend to enroll in a minimum part-time post-secondary program.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.
  • A student may receive the LA-CO award a maximum of $6,000 over six years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.**
    **Should the LA-CO employee leave LA-CO before the dependent has completed a term for which the student has received assistance, repayments will be deducted from the employee’s final paycheck and/or vacation checks. Once the employee leaves
    LA-CO, tuition assistance will cease.

Selection of Recipients

Dr. Lester Aronberg and Tony B. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.

LA-CO Leaders for the Future: Education Assistance awards of up to $1,500 (depending on the number of applicants) will be granted to all applicants who meet the eligibility requirements for one academic year, excluding recipients of the Dr. Lester Aronberg and Tony B. Scholarship Awards. Individual award amounts shall not exceed the cost of tuition and fees. Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of LA-CO Industries, Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of LA-CO Industries, Inc. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 27, 2021 3:00 pm.
