Mid-America Apartment Communities Scholarship Program for Sons and Daughters

Mid-America Apartments, L.P. (“MAA”) established a scholarship program to assist associates with the expense of higher education for their dependent children who plan to continue their education in college, technical school or a vocational program.  Scholarships are offered each year for students enrolled in a full-time course of study at an accredited institution.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Applicants to the MAA Scholarship Program for Sons and Daughters must be:

  • A dependent child of an MAA associate with one or more years of service prior to the application deadline who is between the ages of 17 and 25 and meets the definition of dependent as required by the Internal Revenue Service.
  • A high school senior, high school graduate, or student who is already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, university, technical school or vocational program for the upcoming academic year.

Award information:

  • If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award in the amount of $1,000.
  • Up to three (3) awards will be granted each year.
  • One of the scholarships is designated for a student planning to attend a 2-year college, technical school or vocational program, provided there is a qualified candidate.  In the event there is no qualified candidate, the award may be given to a student pursuing study at a 4-year college or university.
  • Awards are not renewable.  However, students who did not receive an award in the past may reapply to the program each year as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.
  • MAA will grant a maximum of one (1) scholarship per dependent child’s lifetime and a maximum of three (3) scholarships per eligible associate’s family.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of goals and aspirations
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or associate of Mid-America Apartments, L.P. play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.


Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Mid-America Apartments, L.P. Payments are made in two installments in mid-July and mid-December.

As part of your application, you must upload the following document:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation must be submitted on your behalf.
