Martin Goland Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Southwest Research Institute has established  the Martin Goland Scholarship to assist employees’ children who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college programs. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited two-or four-year college or university of the student’s choice and may be renewed based on maintaining eligibility and academic performance.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Martin Goland Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, (up to the age of 26) of regular, full-time Southwest Research Institute employees who have a minimum of one year of employment as of the application deadline.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll for the first time in full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year. The program is open to all fields of study; no specific major is required.

Children of Institute officers and children of families with a previous Martin Goland Scholarship recipient are not eligible to apply.

*Dependent children are defined as children or step-children who qualify for benefits provided by Southwest Research Institute.

Awards

Up to two (2) new awards of $5,000 will be granted each year.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional consecutive academic years or until a bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study, continued parental employment, and and continuation of the program by Southwest Institute.

Breaks in a full-time course of study may result in a reduction or revocation of a renewal award; requests for exceptions must be submitted to Scholarship America 60 days in advance and in writing. Students may transfer to another eligible accredited institution without penalty or losing their award.

Recipients choosing to attend one of the US service academies will only receive scholarship awards for their first year and will not have the option of scholarship renewal.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May of each calendar year.

Payment of Scholarships

Payments are made in one installment in early August. Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Southwest Research Institute. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are made payable to the school for the student’s account.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Online Recommendation

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Southwest Research Institute play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final. Not all applicants to the program will receive a scholarship award.
