MasTec Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

MasTec has established a scholarship program to assist employees and their dependent children who plan to continue their education in college. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the MasTec Scholarship Program must be:

  • A United States Citizen or legal resident
    AND
  •  Either:
    • A regular full-time MasTec employee with a minimum of one year of service as of the application deadline date, with no disciplinary issues, pursuing a degree to enhance their career with MasTec, and with a letter of recommendation from their supervisor*
      OR
    • A dependent*** child, age 26 and under, of regular full-time employees who have a minimum of one year of employment, with no disciplinary issues on record during the previous year, as of the application deadline.**
***Dependent children are defined as biological and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.

*Employees must plan to enroll or already be enrolled in part-time or full-time undergraduate study (minimum six credit hours per term for the full academic year) at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.

**Dependent children must be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

Employees or dependents of employees, where the employee has been designated as a Highly Compensated Employee (HCE), are not eligible to receive a MasTec Scholarship. An HCE is defined by the IRS annually. For 2020, the income criterion to be classified as a highly compensated employee is at $130,000. If both parents work for MasTec and either is an HCE, the dependent is ineligible to be a scholarship recipient.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to seven (7) awards will be granted. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent on the basis of maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent), continued full-time employment with MasTec of employee or parent, and continuation of the program by MasTec.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in mid-June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of MasTec. Payments are made in August and December.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an uploaded recommendation. Employees will be required to upload a recommendation from their supervisor.

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of MasTec play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Applicants may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload an official copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

  • A letter of recommendation.
    • If you are the dependent child of a MasTec employee, your letter of recommendation can be from a high school or college counselor or advisor, an instructor, or a work supervisor who knows you well.
    • If you are a MasTec employee, your letter of recommendation must come from your work supervisor.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
