The Medtronic Scholarship Program was established in 1982 as a memorial to recognize the leadership and service Palmer J. Hermundslie gave to Medtronic, Inc. as a co-founder of the company. Medtronic offers this program to aid and encourage employees’ children in continuing their education.

Scholarships are offered to children of eligible U.S. and Puerto Rico-based Medtronic employees and its subsidiaries. The program is competitive and recipients are awarded scholarships for full-time study at any accredited postsecondary institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age,┬á gender, disability, or national origin.

  • Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, a statement of educational and career goals, and the Applicant Appraisal
  • Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award. Recipients who do not demonstrate need or whose parents choose not to provide the requested financial information will receive a $500 honorarium award. All other recipients willl receive a $1,500 award.
  • Recipients are selected by Scholarship America. All information received is considered confidential. In no instance does any officer or employee of Medtronic play a part in the selection. Decisions of the selection committee are final and are not subject to appeal. The program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.
