The Meriden Foundation Scholarship Program

The Meriden Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist residents of Meriden, Connecticut who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs after high school graduation. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Applicants to The Meriden Foundation Scholarship Program must be:

  • High school seniors residing in the city of Meriden, Connecticut, or its environs (surrounding areas) and attending one of the following eligible schools:
    • H.C. Wilcox Technical High School
    • O.H. Platt High School
    • F.T. Maloney High School
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,200 to $10,000. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by The Meriden Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified by late June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, essay and an online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

Scholarship America will evaluate and rank all complete applications. The Meriden Foundation’s selection committee will select recipients and determine award amounts. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Payment of Scholarships

The Meriden Foundation processes the scholarship payments on August 1. The check is mailed to the recipient’s school, and is made payable to the school for the student.

Renewal information is emailed by Scholarship America to eligible recipients in January.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 9, 2021 3:00 pm.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
