Madison Gas and Electric Company Scholarship Program

Madison Gas and Electric Company has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Madison Gas and Electric Company Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children of MGE employees who work at least 30 hours a week or who are retired. Children of deceased retirees or employees who died while employed are also eligible to apply. In all foregoing cases, employees must have completed one year of employment with MGE as of the application deadline date.
    *Dependent children are identified as biological, legally adopted or stepchildren living in the employee’s or retiree’s household, or primarily supported by the employee or retiree; or non-biological children who are in an ongoing familial-type relationship with the employee or retiree and depend on the employee or retiree for 50 percent or more of their support.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year or attend a U.S. service academy.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive $2,000. Recipients attending U.S. service academies will receive a one-time $2,000 honorarium. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Awards may be renewed for a fifth year for bona fide five-year undergraduate programs. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by Madison Gas and Electric Company.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Madison Gas and Electric Company. Payment is made in August and mid-December.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Madison Gas and Electric Company play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. If not selected, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

    • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
      • Student name
      • School name
      • Grades
      • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.


NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 2, 2025 3:00 pm Central Time.
