Wendell Milliman Scholarship Fund

Milliman has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Wendell Milliman Scholarship Fund must be:

  • Dependent* children of non-shareholder employees who have a minimum of one (1) year of employment with Milliman at the time the scholarship is awarded. In addition, the employee must be employed by Milliman at the time the scholarship is awarded.*Dependent children are children who qualify for benefits provided by the company.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Majoring, or intending to major, in mathematics, computer science, business, finance, economics, actuarial science or health related sciences.

Award information:

  • If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of up to $7,500 (U.S. currency).
  • Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in mid-June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Milliman. Payment is made in early August.

Scholarship finalists are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Two letters of reference

Milliman will select recipients from the group of finalists and determine award amounts. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Program Deadline

Your application must be submitted on or before March 28, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

  1. Current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Unofficial or online transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, and term in which each course was taken.
  2. Copy of ACT and/or SAT test scores if not included on your transcript (only required for current high school seniors and undergraduate freshmen and sophomores). NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately.
  3. TWO letters of reference:
    • From a community member or work supervisor: Please request a letter of reference from an unrelated person familiar with the applicant’s community involvement or work experience. The Committee will be interested in a sense of purpose, skill level, thoroughness, ability to get along with others and evidence of leadership. Include the type and length of the relationship between student and person supplying the reference.
    • From a teacher, counselor, or other school official: The Committee would like a personal evaluation of the applicant that shows successful leadership, accomplishments in extracurricular activities, and the ability to meet problems, etc. Include the type and length of the relationship between student and person supplying the reference.

Your application is not complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically by the application deadline date and time of March 28, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
