Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program

The Mitte Foundation has established the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program to assist local high school seniors who plan to continue their education in two- or four-year colleges or universities in the state of Texas.

The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility

Applicants to the Roy F. and Joann Cole Mitte Foundation Scholarship Program must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be high school seniors graduating Spring 2025
  • Be a graduate from a high school located in one of the following Texas counties:
  • Bastrop
  • Bell County, Bartlett ISD only
  • Blanco
  • Burnet
  • Comal
  • Caldwell
  • Fayette
  • Gillespie
  • Gonzales
  • Guadalupe
  • Hays
  • Kendall
  • Lee
  • Llano
  • Milam
  • Travis
  • Williamson

 

 

  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Show financial need.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university in the state of Texas for the entire upcoming academic year.

NOTE: Home-schools students residing in the designated counties are eligible to apply.

Students who are related to an employee or board member of the Mitte Foundation are not eligible.

Award

The awards granted will be $10,000 each for students enrolled in four-year colleges and $5,000 each for students enrolled in two-year colleges.

Scholarship awards are renewable for up to three years if attending a four-year school or up to one year if attending a two-year school provided the student meets the following criteria:

  • Current recipient of a Mitte Scholarship within the previous 12 months.
  • Must attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university in the state of Texas for the entire academic year.
  • Must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale.
  • As an undergraduate student, must maintain and pass at least 12 credit hours of undergraduate study per semester.
  • Volunteer time towards meaningful community service (minimum 100 hours per year)*.
  • Must participate in events that are scheduled specifically for Mitte Foundation scholars (Dinners, BBQ, presentations, seminars or other).
  • At the end of each award year, students must submit the following materials:
    • Resume listing number of hours worked at current job and any leadership positions held.
    • Copy of transcript including name, school name, grades and credit hours.
    • Personal essay outlining what type of community involvement the student had during the prior 12 months.
    • Letter of recommendation attesting to the student’s volunteer activities and leadership abilities.

*Additional information on how to complete the 100 hours of community service is available on request.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Three online recommendations

Financial need will be considered. Recipients must demonstrate need. All applicants must provide a copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (Please black out SSN). Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America and representatives of the Mitte Foundation. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the Mitte Foundation. Payment will be made in one installment in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following documents:

Public School Students will need to submit the following:

  • Complete transcript of grades.
  • Transcript Information Form completed by the appropriate school official
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (Please black out SSN).

Private and Charter School Students will need to submit the following:

  • Complete transcript of grades.
  • Notarized Curriculum Form
  • Copy of the first two pages of the most recently filed IRS Form 1040 (Please black out SSN).

Home School Students will need to submit the following:

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of those test scores separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Three online recommendation forms must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 20, 2025 3:00 pm.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
