Milton J. Wood Scholarship Program

Milton J. Wood Company and Milton J. Wood Fire Protection (MJW) have established a scholarship program to assist MJW employees and their children who plan to continue their education in college. Scholarships are offered each year for the following:

  • Children of employees enrolled in full-time or part-time study at an accredited two‑year or four‑year college or university or graduate school.
  • Employees enrolled in full‑time or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two‑year or four‑year college or university or graduate school OR plan to enroll in job-related curriculum at a vocational or trade school.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America® the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Eligibility
Applicants to the Milton J. Wood Scholarship Program must meet the following criteria:

  • Be full-time employees or children (ages 17 to 25) of full-time employees of MJW Consolidated, Inc. and its subsidiaries; Milton J. Wood Company and Milton J. Wood Fire Protection, Inc. who have a minimum of three years of continuous employment with the company as of the application deadline date or the funding date, whichever occurs later, or 10 years of service with the company or children (ages 17-25) of deceased employees who have met the above criteria and up to a period of 24 months after death. The active employee must continue to be employed with the company at the time awards are paid.
  • Be a high school senior or postsecondary undergraduate or graduate level student.
  • Child of Employee: Plan to enroll in full‑time or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two‑year or four‑year college or university or graduate school (for-profit schools are not allowed) for the upcoming academic year.
  • Employees: Plan to enroll in full‑time or part-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two‑year or four‑year college or university or graduate school (for-profit schools are not allowed) for the upcoming academic year -OR- plan to enroll in job-related curriculum at a vocational or trade school (for-profit schools are not allowed) for the upcoming academic year.

Award
The authorized distribution for new awards will be up to $60,000. If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $3,000 to $10,000. Financial need will be considered in determining the amount of the award.

Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

The recipient can receive the award for multiple years but they cannot receive more than a lifetime amount of $40,000.

Notification
Applicants will be notified in April. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of MJW. Payments are made in equal installments in mid July and late November.

Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Once scholarship recipients are selected, financial data is reviewed to determine the amount of each award, ranging from $3,000 to $10,000.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of MJW play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 11, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.

Your application is not considered complete unless all required documents are submitted electronically.
