Mortenson Scholarship Program

M.A. Mortenson Company has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Mortenson Scholarship Program must:

  • Be children of full-time Mortenson craft, hourly team members who have a minimum of 18 months employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current college undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of M.A. Mortenson Company play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in July.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of M.A. Mortenson Company. Payment is made in one installment in early August.

Team members must be actively employed at the time the scholarship is awarded.

Awards

Up to 14 awards will be granted, as follows:

  • One (1) award of $14,000 will be granted to the top-ranked applicant pursuing a degree or certification in construction, real estate, or engineering-related program.
  • Three (3) awards of $10,000 will be granted to the next highest-ranked applicants pursuing a degree or certification in construction, real estate, or engineering-related program.
  • Ten (10) awards of $5,000 will be granted for a degree or certification in any program of study (preference may be given to applicants pursuing degrees or certifications in construction, real estate, or engineering-related programs).

Assuming there are qualified applicants, a minimum of seven (7) awards will be granted to applicants who self-identify as female and/or one of the following underserved groups:

  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Asian
  • Black or African American
  • Hispanic or Latino
  • Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Recipients may be offered future mentorship, internship, and/or employment opportunities provided by Mortenson.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

    NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than May 28, 2024 3:00 pm Central Time.
