Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) has established a scholarship program to assist high school seniors residing in one of their municipal utility service areas and who are applying or already enrolled at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school. MRES also offers scholarships to students who attend pre-selected technical colleges and major in a Powerline/Lineworker program.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance, and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to creed, race, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetic information.
Applicants to the MRES Scholarship Program must meet all criteria in one of two areas:
OR
Up to twelve (12) $1,000 awards may be granted.
Up to five (5) awards may be granted to high school students who reside in an MRES service area. These awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by MRES.
Up to seven (7) awards may be granted to technical bound students enrolled in a Powerline/Lineworker Program at the technical schools listed on the Eligibility tab. These awards are one-time only and not renewable. Students may not reapply.
Awards are for undergraduate study only. Awards are to be used for education expenses which include tuition, books, tools, and supplies.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, a brief statement about the benefits of their locally owned municipal electric utility, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
Financial need is not considered.
MRES expects the renewable scholarships will be presented to students pursuing courses of study for careers as an electrical technician (e.g., lineworker, field service technician, wind turbine maintenance, power plant maintenance, etc.), electrical engineer and other engineer disciplines, mathematics, science, and energy management profession or in a closely related field.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of MRES play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
All applicants will be notified in May.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Missouri River Energy Services. Payment is made in one installment in August.
