American Moving & Storage Institute Scholarship Program

The Moving & Storage Institute (MSI) has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.
This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Moving & Storage Institute Scholarship Program must be:

  • Employees of an independent moving and storage company, van line, van line agent, or supplier to the industry; and/or
  • Children or grandchildren of an employee; and/or
  • Children or grandchildren of an independent contractor affiliated with an independent moving and storage company, van line, and/or van line agent.
  • Children of deceased employees are eligible to apply; however, employee must have been employed at the time of death.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll or are already enrolled in full time undergraduate study at a domestic, accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Applicants of all majors are eligible to apply, but preference will be given to applicants planning to pursue a program in business administration, accounting, or other program related to the moving and storage industry.

Applicant or applicant’s parent/grandparent/spouse must be employed by a member company in good standing of the American Moving & Storage Association (AMSA).

Recipients are limited to four scholarships during their entire course of study.

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $500 to $1,500.

Awards amounts are at the discretion of the MSI board, but are typically between $500 and $1,500.

Awards may be used for tuition and education expenses, including books, course materials, and fees.

Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Recipients are limited to four scholarships during their entire course of study.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.


All applicants will be notified in June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of AMSA. Payment is made in early August.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Past academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of career and educational goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • Outside appraisal

Financial need will not be considered.

AMSA reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.


As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display the student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course, as well as the term in which each course was taken.

Also as part of your application, one online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf.
