Abrams-Koerner Memorial Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

NJR Service Corporation has established a scholarship program to assist employees’ children or stepchildren who plan to continue their education in college. Renewable scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited four-year institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Abrams-Koerner Memorial Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children or stepchildren of full-time NJR Service Corporation employees who have a minimum of one year of full-time or part-time employment with the company as of the application deadline date.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited postsecondary institution in a program of study leading to a bachelor’s degree for the entire upcoming academic year.  Applicants may attend community or junior colleges if their intent is to transfer to a four-year college or university for the completion of their bachelor’s degree requirements. Awards will not be made for study at a government subsidized military academy.

Award Amounts

Up to five (5) Abrams-Koerner Memorial Scholarship awards will be awarded at $1,500 each. A sixth award, the Julie Hoecker-Caverly Memorial Scholarship, will be granted at $2,000, and will be awarded to the top-ranking applicant. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued employment of the student’s parent at NJR Service Corporation, and continuation of the program by NJR Service Corporation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Awards will not be made for study at a government-subsidized military academy.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal.

Financial need will not be considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of NJR Service Corporation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

Applicants will be notified by late March.  Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.  Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
