Northwestern Mutual Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist students who plan to continue their education at an accredited Historically Black College or University (HBCU) for the entire upcoming academic year.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Northwestern Mutual Hometown HBCU Connection must:

Children of executive level Northwestern Mutual and Northwestern Mutual Foundation employees are ineligible.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $7,500 award. Up to nine (9) awards will be granted.
Awards may be renewed for an additional year or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study.
Awards can be used for qualified eligible education-related expenses only such as tuition, fees, books, and required supplies.
Recipients may be offered additional supports and mentorship opportunities, etc. through College Possible Milwaukee or Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee’s Grad Plus program.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
All applicants will be notified in early April.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Northwestern Mutual Foundation. Payment is made in August.

Financial need is not considered.
Assuming there are qualified applicants, preference will be given to students from preferred high schools.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Northwestern Mutual Foundation play a part in the selection.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
