NSA Scholarship Program
Deadline to apply: June 7, 2024 3:00 pm CT

The National Supermarket Association Scholarship Foundation has established a scholarship program to assist those students within the local communities in which our member stores are located. Through education we are empowering our communities for a brighter future.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the NSA Scholarship Program must:

  • Be high school seniors or graduates, current postsecondary undergraduates, or graduate students who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study or at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or graduate school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident of an individual granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA)

Employees of NSA stores are eligible to apply.

National Supermarket Association (NSA) store owners and immediate family members* of NSA storeowners are ineligible.
*Immediate family members are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children or Spouses of the storeowners.

Awards

NSA awards of $1,500 each and Meritorious awards of $5,000 each will be granted. Recipients are eligible to receive one award each year. Awards are not renewable; however, students may reapply to the program each year they meet the eligibility of the program.

Recipients may be offered internships or other opportunities through the NSA.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late July.

Recipients will be required to provide proof of citizenship/permanent residency or a DACA approval letter at award notification.

Payment of Scholarships

National Supermarket Association Scholarship Foundation provides the scholarship payment payable to the student. Recipients will receive payment at the NSA Scholarship Ceremony in late July. If you are unable to attend, other arrangements will be made to receive payment.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • A 1,000 character essay

Essay Topic: Provide a statement on how you will make a positive impact in your community using your degree.

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award.

To be considered for the Meritorious award, applicants must be pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree related to entrepreneurship or business growth and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
