This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.
Applicants to the Sol Siegal Scholarship Program must:
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $1,500 award. Up to ten (10) scholarships will be granted. Five (5) awards will be given to students based on merit only, and up to five (5) awards will be given to students from an approved list of majors, if qualified applicants exist.
Recipients will represent the ethnic, geographic and occupational diversity within Olympic Steel, as long as qualified applications are received.
Recipient’s parent must remain employed at the time of scholarship check distribution.
The scholarships are renewable for up to three additional years within a maximum five-year period or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, based on satisfactory academic performance (2.75 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale) and continued parental employment. Renewal awards will be honored for children or legal dependents of employees who become retired, permanently disabled or deceased subsequent to the initial award being made. As a part of the renewal process each year, recipients must also submit a one-page essay discussing the student’s academic progress and application of Olympic Steel’s ten core values in his or her everyday life.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of strong academic performance, demonstrated leadership and participation in at least two school and community activities, an online recommendation from an instructor, a recommendation from an employer or leader in a community organization (excluding family members and relatives), and an essay by the student regarding his or her future educational and career objectives, work experience, community involvement, and significant challenges or unusual circumstances.
Financial need is not considered.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Olympic Steel, Inc. play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
All applicants will be notified in April.
