the John L. Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Fund sponsored by Robyn Ortiz has established a scholarship program to assist children residing in Illinois who plan to continue their education in college. Scholarships are offered for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice for the upcoming school year.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.
Applicants to The John L. Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Program must be:
Award Amounts
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award of $2,500. Up to two (2) awards will be granted.
Awards are one time only. Past recipients may not reapply; however, nonrecipients may reapply to the program each year they met eligibility requirements.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need will not be considered.
A death certificate must be provided to authenticate the death of the parent(s).
Notification
Applicants will be notified in July.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The John L. Ortiz Memorial Scholarship Fund. Payment is made in one installment in early August. Checks are mailed to each recipient’s home address and are payable to the school for the student.
