Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Guideposts has established this scholarship program to recognize its renowned co-founder, Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. Funding for the Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship is provided by the late Mrs. Naomi Wilden in memory of her late husband, James K. Wilden. Naomi and Jim Wilden were faithful and generous supporters of Peale Center programs for many years. Before his death, in 1990, Jim Wilden set up the trust fund that makes this gift possible. The scholarship program will assist employees’ children who plan to pursue post-secondary education in college and vocational programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship Program must:

  • Dependent children* of regular employees of Guideposts who are scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week and have completed three (3) months of service as of the application deadline.
*Dependent children are defined as natural children, stepchildren, legally adopted children or legal wards, age 22 and under, supported principally by the employee/guardian.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four year college, university or a vocational-technical institute.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation.

Once recipients are selected, financial need is assessed to determine the amount of each award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any office or employee of Guideposts play a part in the selection.

Awards

Scholarship awards range from $1,000 to $3,500. Up to five (5) one-time scholarships will be awarded each year. Awards are for undergraduate study only. Previous Norman Vincent Peale Scholarship recipients are eligible to reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Guideposts. Payment will be made in one installment in early August.

Awards are contingent upon active employment at the time checks are issued; if an employee resigns before an award check is issued the student will be ineligible for the award
