Penn Mutual Scholarship Program

The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company has established a scholarship program to assist children, grandchildren and other family of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Penn Mutual Scholarship Program must:

  • Be children* grandchildren, or nieces or nephews of full-time or part-time Penn Mutual employees levels 18-24, or affiliated financial professionals.
    *Children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
  • Be high school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive one of the following awards:

The Pat Chiarlanza Memorial Award is a $5,000 award granted to an employee’s* child, grandchild, or niece or nephew who:

  • Will enroll at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university or vocational-technical school for the upcoming academic year.
  • Demonstrates exceptional participation in and commitment to volunteerism and community activities, a passion for service, care for others, and encouraging a charitable spirit, which is reflective of the beloved employee, Pat Chiarlanza, for whom this award honors.

*An employee consists of those in levels 18-24. Affiliated financial professionals are not included.

OR

One of three $2,500 awards for recipients attending any accredited college, university, or vocational-technical school for the upcoming academic year.

Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in December.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. Payment is made in August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • Volunteer and community service experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company play a part in the selection.

Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.

All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
