Phillips 66 Dependent Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

The Phillips 66 Dependent Scholarship Program was established to provide financial assistance to employees’ and retirees’ children who plan to attend college but may not be able to meet the expenses of a college education without such aid.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Phillips 66 Dependent Scholarship Program must be:

  • Dependent* children, of full-time non-store employees on the Phillips 66 U.S.** payroll, including U.S. expatriates or identified U.S. subsidiaries as of May 1 of the year in which the awards are made. Children of retired, disabled or deceased employees of Phillips 66 U.S.** are also eligible. Retirees must meet company’s qualifications for retirement.
*Dependent child is defined as a child who qualifies as a federal tax exemption to the employee on his/her most recently filed tax return (Form 1040). An exception may be requested for a natural or legally adopted son or daughter in cases such as divorce or separation. A written explanation and proof of support is required.
**Any U.S. subsidiary of Phillips 66 in which ownership by Phillips 66 (or one of its subsidiaries) exceeds 50% shall be deemed employment by a Phillips 66 company within the meaning of this provision
  • High school seniors who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

Children of employees who were part of the Executive Leadership Team as of February 1 of the year in which awards are made are not eligible to apply.

Award

  • Up to sixty-six (66) selected recipients will receive a $4,000 award.  The total number of awards will be limited to 25% of the qualified applicants. Thirty (30) alternates will also be selected.
  • Awards may be renewed up to three additional years or until a Bachelor’s Degree is earned, which ever occurs first. Renewal requirements include maintaining a minimum 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale and full-time enrollment.
  • Scholarship holders desiring to participate in plans for earning a Bachelor’s Degree in less than four years may petition Scholarship America for acceleration of scholarship payments.
  • Students who drop below full-time, do not maintain a cumulative 3.00 GPA or who fail or withdraw from more than one-third of their total credits in one year will forfeit their scholarship. Students may petition for continuation of the award upon enrolling in the summer session to meet the above requirements. An exception may be made if absence from classes is due to illness (certified by a physician) or other exceptional reasons were the cause of withdrawal or failure.
  • Death of the parent of any scholarship holder or retirement from or separation from service with a Phillips 66 company by the parent of any scholarship holder shall not cause the scholarship holder to be ineligible to receive extensions of scholarship awards, providing scholarship holder meets all other eligibility requirements.
  • Students may defer the award if volunteering for or called into active military service.
  • Students who willingly participate in illegal activities that come to the attention of Phillips 66 or Scholarship America will immediately forfeit their scholarship.
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only.
  • Provided there are qualified applicants, the diversity of the recipients will reflect the diversity of the applicant pool.

Selection of Recipients

  • Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
    • Academic record
    • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
    • Work experience
    • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
    • Unusual personal or family circumstances
    • An online recommendation
  • Financial need will be considered.
  • Recipients are selected by Scholarship America. All information received is considered confidential. In no instance does any officer or employee of Phillips 66 play a part in the selection. Decisions are final and are not subject to appeal. The program is competitive; not all applicants will be selected as recipients.

Alternate Process

  • If any recipient does not accept an award or fails to meet eligibility requirements to receive or renew the award, an alternate will be deemed a recipient and will receive the remaining portion of the original recipient’s award.
  • Alternates are selected in order of originally determined rank. The highest ranking alternate among the group selected for that award program year will be notified.
  • To receive the award, the alternate must provide proof that she/he meets the renewal requirements of the Program, including full-time enrollment and a cumulative 3.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale, or the equivalent.
