Pitney Bowes Inc. has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college programs. Scholarships are offered each year for full-time study at an accredited institution of the student’s choice.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants of the James L. Turrentine Scholarship Program must:

  • Children (including natural, adopted, legal guardianship or stepchildren) of Pitney Bowes employees working 30 or more hours per week in the United States or Canada who have a minimum of one year of continuous employment with the company as of January 1 of the program year. Employees must be actively employed when awards are granted/announced.
  • High school seniors who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year.

*Eligibility is for one time during current application year only.

The JLT award can be renewed for up to 3 years or until receipt of the bachelor degree, whichever comes first.

Note: You must be an active employee of Pitney Bowes working 30 hours or more per week at the time scholarship is awarded in June 2024.

Award information:

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $3,750. Awards will be granted based on applications received.

  1. Up to 22 awards of $3,750 each for students demonstrating financial need. These awards are renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance. Scholarships may be renewed even though the recipient’s parent is no longer employed by Pitney Bowes. If the student graduates early they are still eligible to receive the full award amount. As long as the student attends one of the two semesters they will receive full payment for each year they are eligible to receive the award.
  2. Up to six (6) honorarium awards of $1,000 each for students who do not demonstrate financial need. Honorarium awards are one-time only.
  3. Up to four (4) 9/11 memorial awards of $1,000 each for students who have contributed volunteer service to their schools and communities. 9/11 memorial awards are one-time only.
  4. Additional awards may be granted to Canadian applicants.
  5. Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Honors
  • Work experience
  • Statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • A letter of reference
  • Financial need

Evaluation information and one set of the student’s application materials will be forwarded to the Pitney Bowes Scholarship Selection Committee.

Selection of recipients is made by the Pitney Bowes Scholarship Selection Committee. Financial data is reviewed to determine the awards. Recipients whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information will be eligible to receive a minimum award only. All applicants agree to accept the decision of the Pitney Bowes Scholarship Selection Committee as final.
