The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships

The Pittsburgh Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, graduate schools, and career/technical schools.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team. Awards for this scholarship are granted to eligible recipients without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships.

Scholarships funds included in The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships:

  • Conroy D. Guyer Memorial Scholarship
  • Fox Chapel Area Education Aspinwall Women’s Fund
  • Fox Chapel Area Education Fund/Craig Shondeck Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • Fox Chapel Area Education McAuley Fund
  • Fox Chapel Education Fund/Nancy Jane Edelman Scholarship Fund
  • James Randy Tipe Scholarship

Applicants will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed. Only one application is needed:

  • Be a graduating high school senior or graduate of Fox Chapel High School, Pittsburgh PA
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college/university, or vocational-technical school* in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent). See awards for
    specific requirements

*Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August. 

 

Conroy D. Guyer Memorial Scholarship

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Preference will be given to individuals majoring in the arts, drama, music, or creative writing
  • Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent), and full-time enrollment

Fox Chapel Area Education Aspinwall Women’s Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Pursue a degree or studies in Fine Arts including art, music, drama, communications, theater and/or dance
  • Be a student has participated in extra-curricular activities
  • Plan to attend a 4-year college or university
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need

Fox Chapel Area Education Fund/Craig Shondeck Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need
  • Have participated in extracurricular school and/or community activities
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

Fox Chapel Area Education McAuley Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Financial need not required
  • Pursue a degree or studies in business or technology related fields
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to community service and academic achievement
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

Fox Chapel Education Fund/Nancy Jane Edelman Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior or graduate of Fox Chapel High School
  • Pursue a degree or studies in the broad math or physical/natural science (astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, physics) fields. All majors/focus areas that relate to math or science are encouraged to apply
  • Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Preference will be given to applicants who plan to teach math or science in public school but it is not required for consideration

James Randy Tipe Scholarship

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Be a student who demonstrates a commitment to the three core values of Fox Chapel Area School District: respect, responsibility, and integrity
  • Awards are renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. whichever occurs first, on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent), and full-time enrollment

Awards

Distribution amount and number of awards for each fund is determined annually by The Pittsburgh Foundation. Funds that have monies available to issue scholarships will be listed each year.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An Essay: How have you reflected the district’s three core values (respect, responsibility and integrity) during your years as a student in the Fox Chapel Area School District?

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, may be considered for the student to receive an award.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
