The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships

The Pittsburgh Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, graduate schools, and career/technical schools.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

 

Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships.

Scholarships funds included in The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships Application:

  • Conroy D. Guyer Memorial Scholarship
  • Fox Chapel Area Education Aspinwall Women’s Fund
  • Fox Chapel Area Education Fund/Craig Shondeck Memorial Scholarship Fund>
  • Fox Chapel Area Education McAuley Fund
  • Fox Chapel Education Fund/Nancy Jane Edelman Scholarship Fund
  • James Randy Tipe Scholarship

Applicants will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Fox Chapel High School Scholarships. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed:

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School enrolled in or planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate at an accredited two-or four-year college/university, or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year*
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent), unless specified otherwise

*Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August. 

 

Conroy D.Guyer Memorial Scholarship

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree in (majoring in) Art, Drama, Music, or Creative Writing
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted
  • Awards are renewable three times or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, based on maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and full-time enrollment.

Fox Chapel Area Education Aspinwall Women’s Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be pursuing a degree or studies in Fine Arts including art, music, drama, communications, theater and/or dance
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Be an applicant who has participated in extra-curricular activities
  • Estimated two (2) awards will be granted

Fox Chapel Area Education Fund/Craig Shondeck Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School (PA)
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Participation in extracurricular school and/or community activities
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

Fox Chapel Area Education McAuley Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School (PA)
  • Be pursuing a degree or studies in Business- or Technology-related fields
  • Financial need is not required
  • Demonstrates a commitment to community service and academic achievement
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

Fox Chapel Education Fund/Nancy Jane Edelman Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior or graduate of Fox Chapel High School (PA)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Be pursuing a degree in broad Math, or Physical/Natural Science (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics) fields. All majors/focus areas that relate to math or science are encouraged to apply
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who plan to teach math or science in public school, but it is not required for consideration
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

James Randy Tipe Scholarship

  • Be a graduating high school senior at Fox Chapel High School (PA)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the three core values of Fox Chapel Area School District: respect, responsibility, and integrity
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted
  • Awards are renewable three times or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, based on maintaining a cumulative 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and full-time enrollment.

Awards

Total distribution and the amount of each award for each fund shall be determined by The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An Essay: How have you reflected the district’s three core values (respect, responsibility and integrity) during your years as a student in the Fox Chapel Area School District?

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, may be considered for the student to receive an award.

If an award requires or prefers applicants who demonstrate financial need, a one-time honorarium award of $2,500 may be granted to those who do not demonstrate financial need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
