Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Community Programs.

Applicants will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Community Programs. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed. Only one application is needed:
- Be high school seniors or current college undergraduates or graduate-level students
- Plan to enroll in part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year
- Have a 2.0 GPA (or equivalent) or higher
African American Volkswagen Employees’ Scholarship Fund
- Be high school seniors or current undergraduates
- Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as Black or African American
- Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
Anna N. Dosen Serbian Educational Fund
- Preference will be given to applicants of Serbian descent
- Be pursuing an Engineering or Health Sciences degree
- Financial need not required
Byron K. Elliott Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Be high school seniors at Hagerstown High School in Hagerstown, IN
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
C. A. Ensign Fund
- Be high school seniors at Newton Falls High School in Newton Falls, OH
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
- Preference will be given to applicants who self-identify as historically underserved students (Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; or American Indian or Alaska Native)
- Preference will be given to those who display special talent or interest in the field of English and/or Journalism
Charles D. McWilliams Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Be high school seniors at Penn Trafford High School
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Financial need not required
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate active community service experience
Clara Williams Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Be high school seniors at East Allegheny High School or West Mifflin High School
- Planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
Dorothy & Richard Barr Westmoreland County High School Scholarship Fund
- Reside in Westmoreland County, PA
- Be high school seniors
- Have a 3.5 GPA or higher
- Financial need is not required
- Preference will be given to applicants who show community leadership
Frank J. and Cecilia Walker Fund
- Be high school seniors at Springdale High School
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
Frederick V. Hoyet Sr. & Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund
- Be high school seniors at Penn-Trafford High School
- Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Be pursuing a degree or studies in Engineering, Law, Criminology, Criminal Justice, Healthcare, Biological Sciences, Fine Arts, English/Literature, Humanities, Environmental or Conservation Studies
- Financial need not required

- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
Paul J. Baum Fund Scholarship
- Be pursuing music and actively participate in a music program
- Have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Financial need not required
Pittsburgh Jazz Society/Howard Gendell M.D. Scholarship Endowment
- Be a current undergraduate or graduate student
- Be studying Jazz Music
- Recipients must plan to attend Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University, Duquesne University, or University of Pittsburgh
- Applicants must have a 2.5 GPA or higher
- Financial need not required
Samuel J. Goldstein, Esquire Scholarship Fund
- Reside in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington or Westmoreland County, PA
- Attend or plan to attend an accredited law school in Pennsylvania
- Recipients must demonstrate financial need
- Preference will be given to applicants with Jewish Faith
The 14th Quartermaster/Operation Desert Storm Scholarship Fund
- Reside in Westmoreland County, PA
- Be considering a career within a military branch or have a parent who is a veteran or active Army or Army Reserve
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Financial need is not required
Walter Read Hovey Memorial Fund
- Be a United States citizen
- Be enrolled or plan to enroll in a graduate program
- Be studying Art History or related field (i.e. museum work, conservation, or restoration)
- Have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Financial need is not required
Wayne Rawley Fund
- Be high school seniors
- Recipients must plan to attend Carnegie Mellon University or the University of Pittsburgh
- Be pursuing Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree
- Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need
- If the applicant pool allows, awards will be granted to an equal number of applicants from each university.
Awards
Distribution amount and number of awards for each fund is determined annually by The Pittsburgh Foundation. Funds that have monies available to issue scholarships will be listed each year.
Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study.
Notification
All applicants will be notified in late June.
Payment of Scholarships
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in early August.
Selection of Recipients
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
- Academic record
- Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
- Work experience
- A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
- Unusual personal or family circumstances
Depending on the fund, financial need may or may not be considered. Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive specific awards.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
As part of your application, you must upload the following:
- A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
NOTE: If you are providing SAT or ACT test scores, and those scores are not listed on your high school transcript, you will need to upload a copy of your test score report(s) separately. If you are uploading a college transcript, those scores are not required.
