The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs

The Pittsburgh Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four-year universities, graduate schools, and career/technical schools.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

 

Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs application.

Scholarships funds included in The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs Application:

  • Carroll A. Lambton Memorial Fund
  • Frank D. Di Cenzo and Mary Ciamacco Di Cenzo Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • George & Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund
  • Longwood Servers Scholarship Fund
  • Martin J. Mitchell Scholarship Fund
  • Mervin Feldman Memorial Scholarship Fund
  • Wallace E. Pavlick Scholarship Fund

Applicants will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Employer/Membership Programs. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed:

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Be high school seniors or graduates or current college undergraduates or graduate-level students
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.*
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent), unless specified otherwise.

*Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certifications must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August.

Carroll A. Lambton Memorial Fund 

  • Be a full time or part time employee or employee dependent of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) OR a member or a child of a member of the National Contract Management Association (NCMA)
  • Preference given to applicants pursuing a career in Contracting or Procurement
  • Financial need is not required
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

Frank D. Di Cenzo and Mary Ciamacco Di Cenzo Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a member of Kenmawr United Presbyterian Church, McKees Rocks (PA)
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who have participated in community activities
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

George & Dorothy Knedler Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior who is a dependent of full-time or part-time benefited BNY Mellon employee whose salary is below the median level as determined by BNY Mellon and who works and resides in Allegheny County (PA) and has resides in Allegheny County (PA) for at least one year prior to the application deadline date
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Financial need is not required
  • Estimated six (6) awards will be granted
  • Award is renewable three (3) times or until a master’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first based on maintaining a cumulative 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale or equivalent, and full-time enrollment.

Longwood Servers Scholarship Fund

  • Be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate student who is a dining room server, dietary aide or utility worker at Longwood at Oakmont (Verona, PA) with at least 300 hours of service. Previous recipients are encouraged to reapply in consecutive years
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Financial need is not required
  • Estimated three (3) awards will be granted

Martin J. Mitchell Scholarship Fund

  • Be an employee or former employee, or the child of an employee or former employee of Iron Age (Childs) Corporation
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university or graduate program
  • Financial need is not required
  • Estimated three (3) awards will be granted

Mervin Feldman Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Be a full-time or part-time employee or employee dependent of Green Oaks Country Club
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted

Wallace E. Pavlick Scholarship Fund

  • Be a member of any parish within the Dioceses of Pittsburgh (https://diopitt.org/alphabetical-list-of-current-parishes).Preference given to members of the Parish of Triumph of the Holy Cross (Pleasant Hills, PA)
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated three (3) awards will be granted

Awards

Total distribution and the amount of each award for each fund shall be determined by The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Awards are for undergraduate and graduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Depending on the fund, financial need may or may not be considered. Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive specific awards.

If an award requires or prefers applicants who demonstrate financial need, a one-time honorarium award of $2,500 may be granted to those who do not demonstrate financial need.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
