The Pittsburgh Foundation Single Year Awards - Group 2

The Pittsburgh Foundation provides scholarship opportunities for students to pursue their educational goals. Scholarships are available for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates, graduate, medical and professional school students who are attending community colleges, four–year universities, graduate schools, and career/technical schools.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants will complete one application for consideration for all the scholarship funds under The Pittsburgh Foundation Single Year Awards – Group 2.

  • C. A. Ensign Fund
  • Eugene and Nell Petrucci Fund #1
  • Eugene and Nell Petrucci Madonna Scholarship Fund
  • Harold E. Zulick Scholarship Fund
  • Henry W. Miller Jr. Scholarship Fund
  • Ken and Ann Horoho Memorial Fund
  • Luetta Johnston Scholarship Fund
  • Paw Paw Scholarship Fund
  • Thomas P. Kapfer Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • William H. Feller and Edna B. Feller Scholarship Fund

Applicants will apply to The Pittsburgh Foundation Single Year Awards – Group 2. One common application is completed to apply to any of the below funds. Applicants must meet the following criteria and the criteria of one or more of the scholarships listed. Only one application is needed:

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Be a graduating high school senior from one of the following high schools:

  • Illinois
    • Polo High School, IL
  • Maryland
    • Tri-State Christian Academy, MD
  • New Jersey
    • Linden High School, NJ
  • Ohio
    • Newton Falls High School, Newton Falls, OH

    • Altoona Area High School, PA
    • Bellwood-Antis High School, PA
    • Bishop Carroll High School, PA

  • Be enrolled in or plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college/university, or vocational-technical school in the United States
    • Certification programs must be through an accredited institution and must run on a standard academic semester calendar. Certification programs must be a minimum of one semester/term in length and applicants must be enrolled at the time awards are disbursed in August
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent), unless specified otherwise
  • Awards are for undergraduate study only

Byron K. Elliott Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Hagerstown High School, Hagerstown (IN)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

C. A. Ensign Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Newton Falls High School, Newton Falls (OH)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference will be given to those who display special talent or interest in the field of English and/or Journalism
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference given to applicants who self-identify as historically underserved students (American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Black, African, or African American, Hispanic or Latino, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Eugene and Nell Petrucci Fund #1

  • Graduating high school senior at:
    • Burgettstown High School (PA)
    • Cornerstone Mennonite School (PA)
    • Fort Cherry High School (PA)
    • South Fayette High School (PA)
    • Tri-State Christian Academy (MD)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • If the applicant pool and funds allow, at least one award will be granted to a recipient from each high school
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Eugene and Nell Petrucci Madonna Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Madonna High School (WV)
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Harold E. Zulick Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Moshannon Valley High School (PA)
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Henry W. Miller Jr. Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Paw Paw High School (WV)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Financial need is considered but not required
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study

Ken and Ann Horoho Memorial Fund

  • Graduating high school senior in Johnstown/Altoona area or Cambria/Blair Counties:
    • Altoona Area High School
    • Bellwood-Antis High School
    • Bishop Guilfoyle High School
    • Central High School
    • Claysburg-Kimmel High School
    • Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to academics and involvement in community activities and who have exemplified leadership qualities
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Luetta Johnston Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Polo High School, Polo (IL)
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants pursuing a degree in:
    • Science (Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics)
    • Medicine (all medical-related degrees/careers)
    • Engineering
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Paw Paw Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Paw Paw High School (WV)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Thomas P. Kapfer Memorial Scholarship Fund

  • Graduating high school senior at Brentwood High School (PA)
  • Be enrolled or plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college or university
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Financial need is considered but not required
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, academic, and extracurricular achievement
  • Estimated six (6) awards will be granted for undergraduate study only

Vandeventer Scholarship Fund 

  • Graduating high school senior at Linden High School (NJ)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated nine (9) awards will be granted for undergraduate study only

William H. Feller and Edna B. Feller Scholarship Fund 

  • Graduating high school senior at Linden High School (NJ)
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
  • Estimated one (1) award will be granted for undergraduate study only

Awards

Total distribution and the amount of each award for each fund shall be determined by The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Applicants may receive more than one award. Each recipient may not receive more than $10,000 total in awards (per application).

Awards are for undergraduate study.

Awards are one-time only and are not renewable.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late June.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Payment is made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, will be considered.

If an award requires or prefers applicants who demonstrate financial need, a one-time honorarium award of $2,500 may be granted to those who do not demonstrate financial need or who do not provide financial information.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of The Pittsburgh Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
