PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships
Application status: Closed

PNC Bank, N.A., as Trustee, administers several scholarship funds. Each scholarship fund has its own eligibility and award requirements that must be fulfilled by the applicant.

These scholarship programs are administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

Instructions: Please review each of the following descriptions. Complete one application (except Wilbur E. Postles which requires a separate application) and check all scholarship funds for which you meet the guidelines. Applicants will only be evaluated for the scholarships they check on the application.


Elsie B. Moore Award

Applicants must:

  • Be legal residents of the state of Delaware (copy of current Delaware license required).
  • Be newly-enrolled, first-year medical students who have been accepted for admission in the upcoming fall semester.
  • Be of good moral character and citizenship.
  • Attend a personal interview if selected as a Finalist, and will be informed of the date and time.
  • Show financial need.

Awards

The authorized distribution for new and renewal awards is determined annually by PNC. The award checks will be issued in U.S. currency.

Awards are renewable on the basis of satisfactory academic performance. Each student awarded a scholarship may receive automatic renewal by submission of a renewal form and transcript showing that he/she is in good academic standing.


H. Fletcher Brown Award

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Delaware who was born in Delaware (copy of birth certificate required).
  • Be a high school senior planning to enter the first year of college or a college senior planning to enter the first year of graduate school.
  • Be enrolled full-time studying Engineering, Chemistry, Medicine (M.D. or D.O.), Dentistry or Law at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire 2020-2021 academic year.
  • For high school seniors, SAT combined score must be 1120 or higher. Class rank must be in the upper 20%.
  • For graduate students, please submit appropriate test scores for field of study.
  • Show financial need. Family income must be under $75,000 unless extenuating circumstances are demonstrated.

Awards

Awards are renewable on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (maintenance of a 2.5 GPA or better on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent) in a full-time course of study in Engineering, Chemistry, Medicine (M.D. or D.O.), Dentistry or Law.


Dr. Joseph P. Pyle Award

Applicants must:

  • Be between the ages of 17 and 21 years old at the time of application.
  • Be a high school senior residing in the city limits of Wilmington attending a high school within New Castle County or the City of Wilmington
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Attend a personal interview if selected as a Finalist, and will be informed of the date and time.
  • Show financial need.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).

Awards are renewable on the basis of satisfactory academic performance.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.


A. Katharine Richards Award

Applicants must:

  • Be residents of Sussex County, Delaware.
  • Be high school seniors planning to enroll at the University of Delaware in full-time undergraduate study for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) the last two years of high school.
  • Show financial need.

Awards are renewable on the basis of satisfactory academic performance.

Awards are for undergraduate study at the University of Delaware only.


Evelyn E. Stricklin Award

Applicants must:

  • Be residents of Sussex County, Delaware.
  • Be high school seniors planning to enroll at the University of Delaware in full-time undergraduate study for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Be of good moral character.
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) the last two years of high school.
  • Show financial need.

Awards are renewable on the basis of satisfactory academic performance.

Awards are for undergraduate study at the University of Delaware only.


Howard & Edna Postles Award

Applicants must:

  • First-time applicants must be high school seniors who live within 15 miles of the Milford, Delaware city limits.
  • First-time applicants must rank within the top 10% of their class academically.
  • First-time applicants must plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Financial need is considered. Any applicant who fails to provide all requested information will be disqualified.

The authorized distribution for awards is determined annually by PNC. The award checks will be issued in U.S. currency.

An interruption in the educational plan of an applicant for military service, Peace Corps or similar program shall not disqualify the applicant from making subsequent applications for scholarships.

Awards are not renewable. Previous recipients must reapply, and maintain a “B” average and his or her domicile remains within 15-mile radius of Milford, Delaware. Recipients cannot receive more than eight (8) scholarships.


The Hearn Educational Fund Award

Applicants must:

  • First-time applicants must be high school seniors graduating from Milford Senior High School.
  • Applicants must be residents within the boundaries of Milford, Delaware School District.
  • First-time applicants must plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
  • Show financial need.

Awards

The authorized distribution for awards is determined annually by the PNC. The award checks will be issued in U.S. currency.

Awards are not renewable. Previous recipients must reapply on the basis of satisfactory performance. A recipient’s scholarship can be terminated or reduced if their cumulative GPA is between 2.5 and 2.7.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.


Wilbur E. Postles Award – Separate application required

Applicants must:

  • Be residents of Delaware for at least four years prior to submitting application.
  • Be high school seniors who ranks in the top 20% of their class as of Fall semester.
  • Have scored 1120 or higher on the SAT exam.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Show financial need.

Awards

The authorized distribution for awards is determined annually by the PNC. The award checks will be issued in U.S. currency.

Awards are renewable for up to seven years in the complete discretion of the Selection Committee on the basis of satisfactory academic performance (3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale or the equivalent).

Awards may be renewed for undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral study.

Selection of RecipientsScholarship recipients are selected on the basis of the criteria stated for each individual scholarship program.

Selection of recipients is made by each scholarship’s Selection Committee, all applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified in mid-June. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Scholarship recipients may reapply to the Howard & Edna Postles Award and The Hearn Educational Fund Award programs each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC. Payments are made in one installment in mid-August and based on school choice. Awards are either mailed directly, or sent electronically, and made payable to the school for the student.

ObligationsRecipients have no obligation to PNC. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship America of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested.

Revisions

PNC reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.

Application Information

Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current complete transcript of grades and any other required materials stated in the criteria listed above to Scholarship America postmarked no later than April 1. Grade reports are not acceptable. Unofficial transcripts must display student name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Applicants will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgement email is not received within three weeks, applicants may call Scholarship America to verify that the application has been received.

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship America, PNC, and each Scholarship’s Selection Committee.
