Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas have established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.
This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.
Applicants to the Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas Daughters and Sons Scholarship Program must be:
*Dependent children are defined as biological, step- or legally adopted children living in the employee’s household or primarily supported by the employee.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $1,000 to $4,000. Awards may be renewed for up to three (3) additional years for a four-year degree program and one (1) year for a two-year degree and vocational-technical degree or until a bachelor’s degree or certificate is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued employment of the student’s parent at Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas or WEC Business Services, and continuation of the program by Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. Students who must complete a fifth year of college to earn a bachelor’s degree are eligible to renew as long as they do not receive the award for more than four years.
Renewal students may not decline their award and reapply to the program for a larger award. Students may defer their awards for one year only.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Applicants will be notified in April.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas. Payments are made in one installment in mid-August.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.
Financial need will be considered.
Potential recipients who demonstrate no need, or whose parent(s) choose not to supply the requested financial information, will be considered for an award at the minimum amount.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas or WEC Business Services play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
