Powerful Tech and Trade Scholarship

PPL Foundation has established a scholarship program to advance diversity, equity and inclusion and attract more women and minorities to tech and trade careers.

This program is administered by Scholarship America┬«, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability, or national origin.

Applicants to the Powerful Tech and Trade Scholarship must meet all the following criteria:

  • Reside within the 29 Pennsylvania counties by PPL Electric Utilities:
    • Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Clinton, Columbia, Cumerland, Dauphin, Juniata, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzern, Lycoming, Monroe, Montgomery, Montour, Northumberland, Northampton, Perry, Pike, Schuylkill, Snyder, Susquehanna, Union, Wayne, Wyoming, and York.
  • Be a high school senior, graduate, current undergraduate or non-traditional student
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year college or vocational,technical/trade school for the entire upcoming academic year within the PPL Power Scholars Network* of schools
  • Plan to purse a certificate, diploma, or degree in: Engineering, Industrial, Computer Science, Natural Resources Technologies, Electrical, Electronics, Project Management, HVAC, Building Construction, or another trade
  • Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent

*Schools in the PPL Power Scholars Network
2-year Junior and Community Colleges:
Bucks County Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, Lehigh Carbon Community College, Luzern County Community College, Montgomery County Community College and Northampton Community College.

Tech and Trade Schools:
Johnson College, Lehigh Career & Tech Institute, Pennsylvania College of Technology, and Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology.

Recipients of any other PPL Foundation scholarship are ineligible.

Employees and children of employees of PPL Corporation and its subsidiary companies are not eligible to apply.

Awards

If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $2,500 award. Up to (10) ten awards will be granted. Awards are one-time only. Past recipients may not reapply.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an online recommendation.

Financial need is not considered.

 
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of PPL Foundation play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PPL Foundation. Payment is made in August.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display student name, school name, grades and credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.

One online recommendation form must be submitted on your behalf no later than March 5, 2021 3:00 pm.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
