Dr. Joseph P. Pyle Award

PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships offers the Dr. Joseph P. Pyle Award for high school seniors in Wilmington, DE planning to enroll in a college or vocational-technical program.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Dr. Joseph P. Pyle Award must:

  • Be a high school senior residing in the city limits of Wilmington attending a high school within New Castle County or the City of Wilmington.
  • Be between the ages of 17 and 21 year old a the time of application.
  • Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or better on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent).

PNC employees or Trust committee members, their immediate family members, and members of their households are not eligible to apply

 

Awards

The authorized distribution for new and renewal awards is determined by PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships.

Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in late-May.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships. Payments are made in early August.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic performance
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Any unusual personal or family circumstances.

Financial need will be considered.  Recipients must demonstrate need based on Suggested Parental Contribution (SPC).

Scholarship America will process the applications for eligibility, and PNC Bank, N.A. Trustee of the PNC Bank Delaware (DE) Scholarships selection committee will select the recipients and determine the award amounts. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

As part of your application, you must upload the following:

  • A current, complete transcript of grades. Grade reports are not accepted. Transcripts must display:
    • Student name
    • School name
    • Grades
    • Credit hours for each course and term in which each course was taken.
  • If SAT test scores are not included on the transcript, you must also upload a copy of your SAT test scores.
  • Copy of the first two pages of parent/guardian’s most recently filed IRS Form 1040 used for the Financial Information section of the application. Please black out all social security numbers and bank account information.

Your application is not complete unless all required materials are submitted electronically.
