Saltchuk Marine (SM) has long believed in supporting education to the fullest possible degree. Through tuition aid, tuition reimbursement, seminars and the Saltchuk Marine Scholarship Program, SM has enabled its employees and their dependent children to continue the learning process. The Saltchuk Marine Scholarship Program was established to provide scholarships to assist employees’ children who plan to pursue postsecondary education in college and vocational programs.
The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarships and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.
Applicants to the Saltchuk Marine Scholarship Program must:
Children of executives (VP and higher) are ineligible.
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive an award ranging from $500 to $2,000. Up to six (6) awards will be granted. The number of recipients per division will be in proportion to the number of applicants per division, provided there are qualified candidates.
Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study, continued employment of the student’s parent at Saltchuk Marine companies, and continuation of the program by Saltchuk Marine.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
All applicants will be notified in late-May.
Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of Saltchuk Marine. Payment is made in August.
Employees must be active at the time the payment is issued.
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:
Financial need will be considered in determining the size of the award; however, qualified students demonstrating no financial need, or those whose parents choose not to supply the requested financial information, are eligible for honorariums at the minimum level.
Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Saltchuk Marine play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
