Santee Cooper Employees' Children Scholarship Program
Application status: Closed

Santee Cooper has established a scholarship program to assist children of employees who plan to continue their education in college or vocational school programs.

The program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations, and individuals. Eligibility for individual programs is determined at the sole discretion of the sponsor, and eligible applications are reviewed by Scholarship America’s evaluation team.

Applicants to the Santee Cooper Employees’ Children Scholarship Program must be:

  • Unmarried, dependent* children, up to the age of 24, of regular full-time Santee Cooper employees.
*Dependent children are defined as natural and legally adopted children or stepchildren who qualify as federal tax exemptions to the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates, or current postsecondary undergraduates, who plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire upcoming academic year. Students attending United States service academies are not eligible.

Children of executive management, vice presidents, and employees in salary groups 12 and above are ineligible to participate in this program.

Awards

Up to five (5) awards will be granted as follows:

  • Up to four (4) awards of $2,000 each will be granted to students enrolling in or already enrolled in a four-year college program. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first.
  • One (1) award of $1,000 will be granted to a student enrolling in a two-year college or vocational-technical school working towards an associate degree. The award may be renewed up to one year. Recipients who graduate from a two-year college or vocational-technical school may reapply to the program if they continue their education at a four-year college or university.

Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale or its equivalent in a full-time course of study, continued employment of the student’s parent at Santee Cooper, the student remaining an unmarried dependent of the parent employee, and continuation of the program by Santee Cooper.

Awards are granted on the type of college at the time of the application. Awards are not transferable when changing enrollment status from a two-year or vocational-technical school to a four-year college or from a four-year to a two-year college or vocational-technical school and will result in an award forfeiture.

If siblings are selected to receive awards from any given year; only one child can be attending a four-year college and receive the $2,000 award.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of:

  • Academic record
  • Demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities
  • Work experience
  • A statement of educational and career goals and objectives
  • Unusual personal or family circumstances
  • An online recommendation

Financial need, as calculated by Scholarship America, must be demonstrated for the student to receive an award. Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of Santee Cooper play a part in the selection. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Notification

All applicants will be notified in April.
